Located in the Eastern Range of the Andes, the Santander region offers spectacular landscapes, wild and challenging environment on one hand and great culture and history lessons on the other hand.

Because of its incredible geography, Santander is the land of the extreme and the thrills. Adrenaline junkies find this place their perfect location for adventures and good time. High waterfalls with gushing waters for rafting and kayaking can be found at River Fonce or Suarez, cavers can go explore caves more or less difficult at Caverna del Yeso, Cueva de la Vaca, Cueva del Indio or Cueva Antigua. A must see in Santander is the great Chicamocha Canyon. An imposing and majestic natural monument in the National Chicamocha Park, near the city of Bucaramanga, the canyon provides amazing landscapes. If your stomach is strong enough, you must try the paragliding wing to see the beauty of this canyon from the air. If not, there is the aerial tramway that crosses the canyon and still be able to admire its splendor.

Aside from the adrenaline rushes Santander offers, there are lot of possibilities to chill, relax and go back in the time of the colonials. Barichara is the exact place for this, a small village but great in architectural heritage. Stone and bahareque (compresses mud) are the main elements here – houses, streets, churches and artworks were created by the skillful hands of craftsmen. Guane is another small village, but rich in cultural lessons. The colonial architecture is well preserved and handcrafting is a tradition people never let go.

Bucaramanga is another attraction of Santander, a modern city with large streets and avenues and a spectacular academic and financial life. The city of Bucaramanga is known for its wide green spots created by the many parks here, that’s why it’s called the “the city of parks”.
